How to film YouTube videos on smartphone. Youtube is an excellent platform for video bloggers aka vloggers, and if you’re reading this, you either want to start up doing Youtube or you want to start creating videos to go along with your blog posts or for your Instagram or Facebook page. The idea we all have when it comes to creating videos is that we need a digital camera, professional Camera, a DSLR or something along those lines. Now, if you do not have all those fancy camera equipment yet, and still want to create video content, then you need to use what is readily available to you, which is your phone.

1. Get a phone with a very good camera quality. iPhones from the iPhone 5 up have good camera quality and some Samsungs as well. Many other smartphones have good camera quality as well and not just Samsung and iPhone – Tecno, LG, and others. Just do your research, if your phone has good camera quality, great! If not, you can get from a friend or family member before you actually get a good phone or camera.

2. How to film. You need to position your phone in a setup that will show you in front of the lens if you’re talking or whatever you’re trying to show to your viewers. You need something to hold the phone in position while you film cause you may wanna use both hands so you need a stand, a phone tripod, a selfie stick of something like that. I personally use a phone tripod which you can search for at a phone store, or online for.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. When it comes to the actual filming, you have to film your videos in proper lighting. You can have a great camera/phone and be filming in bad lighting and your videos come out horrible. If you’re starting out and don’t have artificial lights yet like the sot box lights and ring lights, then I’ll suggest you use natural lighting so film in front of a very huge door, window in the daytime when the light can hit you well on all sides so you have a bright, sharp and clear video and don’t position yourself far from the light source, the closer you are to it, the better.

4. Another important tip when filming is to clean the lens of the camera before you begin filming or else you may end up with a blurred video without knowing what’s responsible for that, it’s because the lens is dirty.

5. When you’re filming with your phone and you aren’t using something like an external mic, you need to make sure you’re close and loud enough so your phone gets into the microphone. You don’t want someone to be watching your videos and they’re trying to strain their ears to hear you even on the loudest volume, that’ll just out anyone off.

7. The rear camera always has better quality than the selfie camera. So it’s best to film with the rear camera but the problem is how do you see yourself from the back, how do you know if you’re in full view or in focus? If you have an iPhone and a Mac computer, it’s easy to mirror your phone’s screen using the Apple’s Airplay feature so you can see whatever is going on on the Mac’s screen, this also works with an Apple TV. I have an iPhone and a windows computer so I use a software called Lonely Screen to achieve the same thing. Otherwise, you can get a standing mirror and place it on the other side.

8. Look into the lens of the phone when filming, not at yourself on the screen or looking around. It connects you to your viewers when you’re looking at them eyeball to eyeball through the screen at least.

When you’re done filming videos, the next thing you want to do is to edit it. The most popular editing apps used my video bloggers are imovie, this one comes free on iPhones and Apple computers, Final cut pro also for apple computers which is a bit more advanced than the imovie and you have to buy and then, Adobe Premiere Pro for Windows users which I use, you also have to buy this.
