WHY FINDING YOUR NICHE……MIGHT BE THE REASON YOUR BLOG ISN’T

“Finding your niche can only be limit your blog growth if you feel too comfortable just with the fact that you have a niche”

You read the title correctly. The ultimate tip in blogging is to find your blogging niche but this same advice can easily become the engine contributing to the slow growth of your blog. How and why? Well, the mistake many bloggers make is just to find their niche but not learn how to grow in this niche. Growing in a particular niche requires you to gain more knowledge in that niche and outside the niche but be able to apply it to your niche [How many times did i repeat niche..Ahaha].

It is one thing to find your niche and it is another to “learn how to grow in that niche”. Many find their niche, for example, fashion. Then write about fashion styling, trends, colours etc then at some point get stuck of idea’s or how to diversify because it almost seems like they are beginning to write about the same things over and over again. The moment they conclude or label themselves “fashion blogger”, then, they stop reading about something else and just limit their knowledge to fashion. They feel very comfortable in that “niche” gradually, it starts killing their creativity and limiting their growth.

Finding your niche alone will deprive you of growth if you don’t seek knowledge of how to grow in that niche in order to stay consistent: create valuable contents. I think it is time we stop the chorus of: “You need to find your niche” but rather, I would say: “You need to find your niche and seek more knowledge on how to grow in that niche“. Just finding your niche isn’t enough! It’s like starting a business, it isn’t about just starting a business but knowing how to grow that business and expand. Here are few tips on how to “Find your niche and grow in that niche”:

• Seek more knowledge: Bloggers have the habit of not reading blogs/ Ironic right?. Well, I used to be like that too but the moment I started investing time in reading other blogs, the more knowledge I started gaining about blogging in general.
• Diversify your information: Most bloggers tend to just read about topics related to their niche. If you are a fashion blogger, why not try to read about tech. Maybe that will give you more knowledge on how technology is shaping today’s fashion or fashion industry. Also, you can read a fashion magazine, listen to a podcast, read a book, watch a video etc.
• Take action: How many times bloggers read about tips but never implement what they read? Many. The difference between who is reading lots of tips and who is actually seeing changes is “action”. Who went ahead to implement these tips after reading?
• Sharing: When people ask me why I share so much and don’t have a problem with sharing some things. I smile and say “Because I am learning”. When you are capable of passing a knowledge to someone else, it shows you clearly understand it and it creates room for a conversation, opportunity to learn from others & feedback. Also, the more you share, the more you are interested in learning so you can share and the more consistent you get at creating great content.
